For people with Down Syndrome

 
Submit a photo and text for our series on “Hope and Happiness”.

Submit a favourite photo of yourself either on your own, with friends, family or colleagues, which you will allow us to use for publication.

In up to 800 words, tell us about you and your life. Describe what life is like being you; what you believe you bring to society and the world; your hopes and dreams; and what you would tell a new parent of a child with Down syndrome. Tell us how old you are and where you live.

 

Submit a video

Submit a short video based on the following questions: What advice would you give to a new parent of a child with Down syndrome? What is one thing you’d like to change about the world and why? What are your hopes and dreams? What makes you happy?

 

 

For family, friends and colleagues of people with Down Syndrome

Submit a photo of yourself with your favourite person with Down syndrome, which you will allow us to use for publication.

Describe in 300 words or less how this person with Down syndrome has enriched your life and that of your family and/or friends. How has that person changed you and/or your family and friends for the better? What gifts (for instance, acceptance, love, respect, courage and delight) has that person brought into your life/lives?

 

Submit a longer text story: 
  • Submissions should be between 500 and 2000 words in length.

  • Your submission should also include a selection of high-resolution pictures to be published with your story.

  • Your story must contain a clear main idea and be supported by examples. It should have a descriptive title, an engaging beginning and a memorable ending.

  • Your story must be unpublished or, if published, you must own the rights to the piece. (Please state if your piece has been previously published and where in your submission.)

  • Write a brief summary about yourself, your work (if appropriate) and your family at the end of your piece.

  • It may include: how the person with Down syndrome has enriched your life and that of your family and/or friends. How has that person changed you and/or your family and friends for the better? What gifts (for instance, awareness/perspective, acceptance, love, empathy, respect, courage and delight) has that person brought into your life/lives?

 

NB: While we hope submissions will be ultimately uplifting, we are keen that they be honest and real-to-life. 

All submissions will be considered and sensitively edited in conjunction with the author.

The Now I See Project reserves the right to decide whether to publish stories on our site once they have been submitted.
